Riverside Dives Into VBS 2016

During the week of June 20 – 24, Riverside took the plunge into Deep Sea Discovery – otherwise know as VBS 2016. The weeklong VBS averaged 60 participants a night (children, teens, and adults) and challenged each of these participants to "dive deep into God's word". We saw how God is with us wherever we go -- "He knows us, hears us, strengthens us, loves us, and sends us." Our theme verse was Genesis 28:15 -- "And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of." (Genesis 28:15 KJV)

hqdefaultAs an example of God sending us into the world to share with others, one of the week's crafts was a Wordless Bracelet.

The bracelet is similar to the Wordless Book except it uses colored beads, instead of colored pages, to represent several important Bible truths about Salvation – Sin (Black), Blood (Red), Pure (White), Heaven (Yellow), and Grow (Green). Everyone who participated in VBS this year either made or received one of these bracelets. The bracelet was a very appropriate reminder that – "God is with us wherever we go!"

Riverside Celebrates Easter 2016

Sams-phone-pics-416 web

On March 26 and 27, 2016, Riverside embarked on a two-day celebration of Christ's Resurrection. On Saturday, the church hosted an Easter Egg Hunt and cookout for our children and their parents. In all, approximately 30 children and 18 adults participated in this event. We had two separate hunt courses – an easier course for the preschool children and a difficult course for our older young people. Overall, more than 300 eggs were stuffed, hidden, and found. It was an excellent day full of fun, food, and fellowship.

The celebration continued on Sunday morning with our annual Sunrise Service and Breakfast. After Sunday School, it was time for our annual Easter Play. The play was entitled "I Loved You This Much" based on the Crabb Family song by the same name. This year's play was unique in that it utilized all of the ministries of the church – the adult choir, the youth choir, the praise/worship team, the Youth For Christ, and the newly formed mime/drama team – not just the youth and children. The reason for this was to show Riverside united in ministry and purpose. Everything went well! The Lord was glorified and all in attendance were blessed. It was an excellent conclusion to a day of worship and praise for our Risen Savior!

"And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, 'Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee" (Luke 24:5-6).
