Union Chapel: Old Fashion Sunday

church11Sunday, September 12, 2010 Union Chapel Holiness Methodist Church celebrated several joyous occasions. We combined our Pastor Appreciation Sunday with Old Fashion Sunday that also fell on Grandparents Day. The day presented as a beautiful early fall day with plenty of sunshine. Preacher Steve Locklear was the wonderful guest speaker who is also a former pastor of Union Chapel Holiness Methodist Church who resides with his family in Pembroke, NC. His message included recollections of times of old and the sense that God is always the faithful hand that catches us when we fall. The service closed with special music from Pastor Willie’s Scott’s granddaughter, Christy Scott.

Actually, several of our members got into the spirit of the celebration and dressed in their traditional best; from bonnets and aprons to overalls and suspenders. Rev. Willie Scott who was accompanied by his family was overwhelmed when he was presented with unexpected gifts from the congregation and a special gift from the Youth for Christ presented by Mrs. Diane Goins including cards from all the Sunday School Classes that were signed by those in attendance. church5We ended with a luncheon in the fellowship hall with a feast of fantastic food and fabulous fellowship-- a fitting end to a fun and enlightening celebration! Thanks to all who helped make this "Old Fashioned Sunday and Pastor Appreciation Day" possible!

Gingras family Spaghetti Dinner/Auction

gignras19The Lord delivered many blessings to us on Friday September 10th, 2010 at our spaghetti dinner fundraiser.  The dinner was prepared with love and care. Many enjoyed the fellowship and the dinner. The children of Union Chapel Holiness Methodist Church also helped in the fundraising by building houses on Wednesday nights for the auction. We enjoyed walking around seeing how much time and effort went into each house. Everyone enjoyed bidding on the beautiful houses and in the end seeing who got whos house.  The golf cart winner was Leander Locklear, who bought the winning ticket at their work from Sharon Bullard.

We just want to thank everyone who came to the event, took time to cook, or just sent there prayers.
The Gingras family was blessed with all the donations.  We were also blessed with the love that filled the room that night.

Keep praying for the family, our community and our nation.  May God Bless you and your family. For the next event Please contact Ms This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it 521-2051

Union Chapel Class Mission Project

Ramp_2010_bonnie_locklear_a

Throughout the summer quarter, our Standard Lesson Commentary has focused on the Christian Commitment in Today’s World.  The teachings that have been brought forth by God through Brother Calton Oxendine and Brother Tim Locklear has taught us that even though we tell people we love them ‘love’ is an action word that must be shown.  On August 21, 2010, as Sister Bonnie Locklear’s anticipated knee surgery drew near, this love was put into action through the teamwork of God, the Union Chapel Holiness Methodist Church Brotherhood, and the Union Chapel Holiness Methodist Church Adult #2 class by building her a wheelchair ramp.  Members met on the Saturday date and accomplished the mission in 3 hours in order to give her more accessibility to her home after the surgery.  Christians must continue to apply God’s word to their lives and do the will that God has commissioned to be done.  We ask that you remember Sister Bonnie’s surgery and recovery as well as remembering our church members in carrying on the work of the Lord.  As the day came to an end and reflecting on the work completed, we must always remember the very important scriptures that God has made available for us to use for him.  One important scripture applied for today’s mission would be Philippians 2:13:   “For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure”.
